CALIFORNIA LATEST STATE TO RECOGNIZE OCTOBER AS DWARFISM AWARENESS MONTH
Little People of America (LPA) would like to proudly announce that California Assemblymember Jared Huffman will be presenting a resolution on Wednesday, October 24 to recognize October as Dwarfism Awareness Month for the state.
Since 2009, LPA has been recognizing October as Dwarfism Awareness Month with the intention of raising positive awareness around dwarfism, addressing common misconceptions and increasing opportunities for people with dwarfism around the country. Currently six states (Delaware, New York, Missouri, Indiana, New York and Oklahoma) and Puerto Rico have declared October as National Dwarfism Awareness Month. LPA is expecting Massachusetts, Mississippi, Kansas, New Jersey and Mexico to issue resolutions this year as well.
“The goal of Dwarfism Awareness Month is really quite simple,” said LPA’s President, Gary Arnold. “People with dwarfism want the opportunity to pursue educational, employment and social opportunities on common ground with members of the general community. Though we celebrate who we are as a community, we want to be judged according to our skills, our character, and our experience.”
California Assemblymember Jared Huffman will be presenting LPA with the resolution on the North Steps of the State Capitol in Sacramento, CA at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 24. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in Capitol Room 444.
Little People of America (LPA) is a national support organization for people with dwarfism and their families. LPA provides peer, parent and medical support for the dwarfism community.
